Janasahayog (People’s Collective. Saha as in Buddhism Connection – Cooperation) is a non-governmental organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1960.
Description
We are working with urban poor – urban deprived communities. Urban deprived communities consist of Slum dwellers, unorganised & informal labour, street vendors, domestic workers, civic workers and all those engaged in informal economy. We are currently working in 18 districts of Karnataka. Our priorities are housing and land for all the urban deprived communities. alongside, we are also invested in access to basic services – health, education, food, civic amenities etc.
Our vision is to see a society where urban deprived communities represent themselves in urban governance and enjoy their citizenship and rights provided by the Constitution of India.
- Our vision is to secure housing and land rights for urban deprived communities for a stronger foundation for addressing, dignity, intergenerational poverty and injustice.
- Our mission is to build leadership capacities of urban deprived community youth and women towards their active and equitable participation in urban governance.
- Our non-negotiable values/principles are: (i) No discrimination, (ii) No patriarchy, (iii) Courage of conviction, (iv) People First, (v) Peoples Participation, (vi) Internalise the Constitutional Principles, (vii) Working with the Government, (viii) Self-care, (ix) Humility, and (x) Downward accountability
- Our Objectives:
1) To build a public discourse in favour of the priorities of urban deprived communities,
2) To engage with government in addressing issues of urban deprivation,
3) To mobilise and build leadership capacities of urban deprived communities, especially youth and women from historically marginalised communities,
4) To build an ecosystem for active and meaningful participation of leadership of the urban deprived communities in urban governance, and
5) To enable urban poor access to services and entitlements guaranteed by the government
